Beethoven evening in Bonn
On 1 September 2015, Jan Caeyers gave a lecture on Beethoven’s work at the behest of the German Federal President Joachim Gauck in his residence in Bonn. The President himself provided the introduction.
During this half-hour lecture, Jan Caeyers painted a picture that is quite different from the traditional myths about Beethoven and discussed some of the composer’s traits, which are usually misinterpreted. He then proceeded to illustrate his lecture with several lesser known chamber music works. The soloists included Friedeman Breuninger, Le Concert Olympique’s concertmaster, and Agnieszka Kolodziej, a cellist with Le Concert Olympique.
This Beethoven evening in Bonn, which is the Beethoven city par excellence, was organised for a very select audience. The Belgian ambassador Ghislain d’Hoop was one of the prominent guests in attendance.
